Surf City

Surf City, NJ is home to some of the best surfing along the New Jersey coast hence the name Surf City. It’s nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the bay on Long Beach Island. In 1835 a lighthouse in Barnegat had to be built because of the thunderous waves that were causing many ships to wreck. Due to erosion the first lighthouse, fell victim to the Atlantic Ocean and a new one was built in 1859.

Every summer they have weekly races against yacht clubs from neighboring towns to compete against each other. Of course the biggest attraction in this area is the “bodacious waves.” Because of the high tides and larger than normal waves people from all over the world come to Surf City to enjoy the sport. Besides surfing, locals in this area also enjoy coming to the beautiful white beaches to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, crabbing, or clamming. While on the beach you must be wearing a beach badge that you can purchase by the day, week, or season.

Their beaches are fully protected by lifeguards, and have tennis courts and are fully accessibly to the handicapped. Besides the regular beach activities you can also go to the local marina and charter a boat to do some deep sea fishing.

For non beach attractions you can go to Beach Haven, NJ that is 9 miles south of Surf City to visit the Fantasy Island Amusement Park. They have all kinds of rides for adults and kids alike.
