Stone Harbor, NJ is a beach town located on Steven Mile Island along the New Jersey Shores. In the latest census that was taken is showed the populations to be over 1,100 people during the off seasons, and over 20,000 during the summer months. Stone Harbor is one of America’s top 50 richest communities, and was previously the number one richest community in 2001. Stone Harbor officially was declared a town in the early 1900’s and has been a popular resort destination every since then. |

In 1891 the town had its first building and 7 small houses built for vacationers. This town has come along way since the early years of its existences. They now have more houses in Stone Harbor than they have residents due to people owing vacation homes in this town. The seven miles of sandy white beaches in Stone Harbor are guarded with 50 trained lifeguards at 21 different locations. While on the beach you must purchase a beach badge and it must be in plain sight for the beach inspectors to see. You can purchase them by the day, week, or season. The purpose of these badges goes to the paying the lifeguards and maintaining the beautiful beaches. They have 17 areas available for swimming, 7 areas for rafts and body boards, 2 areas fro surfing and 2 for kayaks & catamarans. One of the biggest attractions in Stone Harbor is The Wetland Institute. Here you and your loved ones can go on a self guided or professional guided tour of the institute. You will have fun while learning about ecosystem in this area. The first part of the tour is the Marion’s Gardens, which you will see on your way in the building. The have several native plants that were specifically chosen to attract birds and butterflies, which are native to this area. In the summer on their guided tours they will be taken around their facility, go on a bay boat ride, and also see a live animal show. During the late fall they have an event called “Wings ‘n Water Festival” that was rated “one of the Top 100 Events in North America and Best Event in New Jersey by the Governor’s Conference on Tourism.” Below is a list of a few local restaurants and their locations in Stone Harbor, NJ. The Seaward Motel is one of the many fine motels in Stone Harbor and they offer regular motel rooms or efficiency suites. Every room includes color TV, a/c, electric heat, and ceramic tile bath-shower-tubs. If you choose to stay in their efficiency suites they will have all the utensils furnished. They also offer a heated pool and spacious sundeck to sunbathe on. Directions: On Garden State Pkwy S you will need to turn left onto Stone Harbor Blvd/CR-657. CR-657 will turn into 96th St. You will then need to make a right onto 1st Ave. This will end at Stone Harbor, NJ. |
