Ocean Grove


Ocean Grove was established by a Christen group that was headed by Reverend William B. Osborn. In the late 1800’s, the Reverend and his faithful followers petition the New Jersey Legislature in the purpose of creating this town. The state granted the Christen group known as Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association the right to hold, sell, and construct the real estate in that area.
They were also allowed to hire a peace officer to keep order in their town. The town committee set laws and regulations in their town that banned all forms of transportation to be on the streets on Sundays, any beach activities on Sundays, and alcohol was prohibited within a mile wide radius of the town.

On May 15th of every year the town’s people would bring out tents and set them up in a half circle around the Great Auditorium. This “summer camp meeting” tradition is still practiced in this town today where they still have 114 of the original 660 tents. In 1975 this town received acknowledgment as the State and National Historic District that is a leading example of the 19th century community. They have the largest number of old-world Victorian style buildings in America.

Though the years the town evolved into a seaside resort town where the “summer camp meeting” is still a big attraction that draws in many visitors. Among the world wide visitors that come to Ocean Grove, this town has also been graced with U. S. Presidents during its existence. This wholesome town offers many great appealing qualities such as their breathtaking views and clean beaches. Here you will find many arts and craft shows and their yearly “Giant Flea Market” in the month of June and September. Strolling down the streets of Ocean Grove is like taking a step back in time; all the structures and houses have been beautifully maintained.

Besides taking a walk down memory lain in this town, you can also go to Ocean Grove Beach and swim, sunbathe, surf, or sail in the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re not into the beach seen, try your hand at their miniature or regular golf courses. For those who have the need for speed, there is an auto racing track called Old Bridge Raceway Park that is only a short drive away. The Great Auditorium is another attraction that is the largest indoor auditorium in New Jersey and here they hold Concerts and other types of entertainment.

For an unforgettable romantic dining experience the Moonstruck is a must. Their sole purpose here is to create that wonder feeling you felt when you first fell in love. They will wine and dine you while you wait for your table and when you finally get the meal you order it will be served with love.

A local Hotel in the town of Ocean Grove is The Bathhouse, where you can say in house that was built in 1880. Originally it was built as a hotel and has always remained a hotel. Although the house has been renovated and re-decorated you still get the full experience of living in the past. They have a great reputation for gracious hospitality and will make your stay with them memorable.
