Mantoloking
Mantoloking, New Jersey was established as a resort destination in the late 1800’s. Some say that they the town’s name is a translation from an Indian language meaning “frog ground.” This has remained a small community through out the years of the town’s existences. In the year 2003 the town was estimated to have a population of only 446 people. The town’s boundaries are between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay that consists of around a half a mile between the two bodies of water. Attractions in this Mantoloking are very limited because of its small size. Activities such as a walk on the beach, swimming, surfing, or sailing are among the local’s favorites. For the beach activities one should be forewarned that there is no life guard on duty and it is swim and surf at your own risk. One of the best qualities of Mantoloking is that you can rest safely in this town, because they strictly enforce all laws and regulations. For example if you are on the beach you must wear your beach badge in plain sight, and you can not picnic or have any kind of food or alcohol beverages on the beach. They also have strict laws regarding how long and where you can park. Any disregard for these laws or regulations can carry a stiff fine.
On the upside of this being a small town, you are removed from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities and you are guaranteed more privacy. However don’t let the size of Mantoloking fool you as it is one of the top fifteen ranked highest-income residential areas in the United States today. Some of the town’s most legendary residents includes ex President Richard Nixon and actress Katharine Hepburn.
Mantoloking has several yacht clubs and marinas such as, Harbour Yacht Club & Marina, and Trader’s Cove Marina. You can charter a boat or park your boat for a fee in these two marinas. For family activities try the Chadwick Miniature Golf located at Lavallette that is less than 3 miles from town.
Mantoloking does not have any restaurants or hotels in their town, but they are only a short drive away. Tomatoes Restaurant is located in Point Pleasant Beach that is less than four miles away and they offer pasta, seafood, poultry, steaks, and sushi. You can also try eating at Rosarions Normandy Beach Café, Café la Playa, or Charlie’s Café these also are less than 3 miles away.
Directions: Take Garden State Parkway to Exit 98 for Route 34 East. Stay on NJ-34 South travel until it becomes NJ-35 South and follow into Mantoloking.
