| Harvey Cedars really hit a boom as far as population during the 1920’s & 30’s when local land owners stared selling off lots for houses to be built.
Like many other New Jersey shore towns, Harvey Cedars has been struck more than once by tropical storms that devastated it through the years, but has always managed to come back better then before. By the 1980’s the popularity of this town picked up again and new residents flooded the area looking for summer homes. The year-round population in this town is only 359 people, but during the summer you can expect to see a lot more. Harvey Cedars has beautiful white sandy beaches were the tourists and locals enjoy sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, fishing, canoeing, and sailing. Their beaches are protected by life guards and you have to purchase a beach badge to join in on the beach activities. They are sold by the day, week, or season. Another good idea for those who love the relaxation of being on the sea is to check out the local marina where you can rent a watercraft. If you like to fish, talk to the marina about where you could charter a boat to do some deep sea fishing. For attraction other than water or beaches you won’t find many in this town, because of its size. However you can find some only a short distance away like in Beach Haven that is to the south by 12 miles. Here they have an amusement park called Fantasy Island Amusement Park. You won’t have much to loose by checking it out, because the admission is free! They offer games, rides, family casino arcade, ice cream parlor, and food stands.
For Hotels in the area you can look into The Islander Motel located at 1202 Central Ave, in Ship Bottom. The outside of their building is done in a tropical décor that is very appealing. They have large rooms with that are decorated beautifully. They are located right in the center of Ship Bottom and surrounded by local activities like golfing, water sports, and shopping all within walking distance. Another hotel in Ship Bottom is the Drifting Sand Oceanfront Motel located at 119 East 9th Street in Ship Bottom. They have rooms available with an oceanfront view, two bedroom family units, suites, and efficiency units with a kitchen. They also supply beach badges fee to all their guests. Directions: On NJ-72 East you will get off at exit 63. Then turn left onto Long Beach Blvd/Cr-607. You will need to keep left at the fork to go on Long Breach Blvd/CR-607. Follow this straight into Harvey Cedars, NJ. |
