Margate City NJ is a town on Absecon Island where many people have a second home to vacation in during the summer months. This is also the popular spot on the board game of Monopoly where Marven Gardens is located. Of all the places you could go and visit this might just be one of the few where you can go to see “Lucy the Elephant”, which was built as a 5 story restaurant in 1881. Although “Lucy” no longer is a restaurant it is still open for tours.
This town is mainly a vacation home destination and due to this fact there are not any hotels in Margate City.
However a neighboring town called Ventnor that is less than 2 miles away makes it possible for you to stay near this charming town and be able to enjoy it on a day trip.
On their beaches you will find them a lot less crowded with tourists; making it ideal for those looking for more privacy on the beach. The lifeguards are on duty longer here during the summer so that the residents and visitors alike can spend more time on the beach. You can enjoy things on or around the beach, like sunbathing, swimming, surfing, rafting, sailing, fishing, and tennis as many of the locals do. Make sure you buy a beach badge while on their beaches to avoid getting a steep fine.
As mentioned above this is home to “Lucy the Elephant” and she is this towns biggest attraction. You can take a tour where all the proceeds are collected for the upkeep of this magnificent historical structure. Lucy is one of three charters built in the same manor, and is the last survivor of her kind. You can go online and see pictures of her and learn more about her at www.lucytheelephant.org, but seeing her in person is truly a memory you and your loved ones will cherish for the rest of your lives.
