Avalon


Avalon, NJ is a beach front town in Cape May County. During the last census that was taken in 2000, the year-round population was over 2,000 people. A man by the name of Aaron Leaming purchased this land from the Lenni Lenape Indians in 1722 and it stayed in his family for over 100 years.

The history of Avalon being a resort destination can be traced back as far as 1893. From here the town became popular among many vacationers who visited by sea.

It wasn’t until the mid 1900’s that a bridge was built allowing Avalon to be more receptive to tourists and new residents.

This town is known for having a family atmosphere with beautiful white sandy beaches and filled with excitement. Here the locals and tourists alike enjoy sunbathing, swimming, fishing, crabbing, playing tennis, basketball and watching the kids play on the playgrounds. There beaches are fully accessible for the handicapped and they even have wheel chairs available upon request. You can purchase your beach badge by the day, week, or season.

Twenty miles south of the beach is Morey’s Wildwood Boardwalk that offers many exciting attractions. Here you will find games, rides, historic villages, gardens, golf, and antique shops. You can also go to the waterpark, Splash Zone, there to find many more thrilling rides along with rides for the entire family.

For you’re overnight accommodations you can stay at Avalon Inn Resort. Here they offer a room with two queen beds and a refrigerator. Or efficiency rooms with two queen beds, kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator. Or you can get a suite that has a king size bed, sofa bed, and a refrigerator. Another option is the Beachcomber Resort Hotel. Here they offer a relaxing, refreshing, unhurried atmosphere and a secluded pool. They are located only one block from the beach and each room is only a short distance from their pool.

Directions: Take US-9 and exit at exit 13 towards Swainton / Avalon. You will then need to make a left onto Avalon Blvd / CR-601. Then take a left onto Ocean DR / CR-619. From here you will then make a right onto 22nd St and then a left onto Dune Dr. This will end in Avalon, NJ.
