Asbury Park


 Asbury Park NJ was created in 1871 by a man named James Bradley. He named the town after Francis Asbury. After he purchased 500 acres for roughly $90,000 he then started developing it into a resort beach town and worked on it until the time of his death in 1921.

In 1890 the town had over 12 hotels with enough room for 2,500 guests, and another 1000 guests could be accommodated in the guest cottages.
It took less than 25 years for this small beach town to become well-known by the entire country.

Among the many attractive features that Asbury Park offers, is their enormous boardwalk with restaurants, snack bars, bars, and live entertainment. Asbury Park is home to four public beaches located on Seventh, Fifth, Third and First Aves. Here you can enjoy a full day in the sun by sunbathing, swimming, surfing and fishing on these one mile long stretch of beaches.

Restaurants on the boardwalk include places like Howard Johnson’s Restaurant where you can dine by the sea. Another popular attraction on the boardwalk is Art’s Ices where you can cool off with their famous Italian Ices drinks.

Directions: From the North Jersey area on Garden State Parkway south take it to exit 102 Asbury Park. Follow Asbury Ave/Route 66 about 6 miles to Asbury Park. Follow the signs for Asbury Park once you get off the parkway.
